Has Social Media become a platform to express true feelings and opinions ?
The new millennial has seen the rise of various social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, TikTok and Twitter. They have become a forum to discuss on various topics and as well to express self opinions. Nowadays even politicians and higher officials have started using Twitter to express thoughts on the issues happening around us.
But does this stop with just telling out opinions and discussions? Actually not. It has become a way to express feelings and thoughts through various mediums. People who are unable to express themselves in real human interactions have begun to use social media as a medium to do the same. It has become a useful tool of expression for many introverts who wish to tell something but decide to keep it to themselves. In instagram, we find a lot of quote pages, thought pages and of course most importantly meme and troll pages . These are actually such people who are using different means to vent out their feelings. In the same time, Twitter has become a common platform for people to express opinions on several national and international issues.
It turns out to be the same even for Facebook. While many may actually say that such social media platforms help them express out themselves without anyone finding out about their true identity, how many have actually realised that in this process we have completely lost human interactions ?
Due to such platforms people have become scared to even do small talks and prefer direct messages or chats to speak to the person next to them. They have become fearful about expressing the truth by worrying about how the opposite person sitting next to them will react to it. This worry is not there when they put it out through their social media accounts. Such platforms have extensively decreased levels of self confidence in people. Recent statistics have also shown that usage of social media has been increasingly making people psychologically down.
It just does not stop with expressing oneself but also begins the new age issue of "Cyber Bullying". The trolls and memes that were initially meant to bring a smile on the face of the person reading it has now turned the exact opposite way.
The trolls are now being used to insult people, their behaviour and their opinions etc. Under each troll we also see millions of nasty and degrading comments by anonymous people.
This has been the case for long, if a person decides to troll or insult someone they do not mind going to any extent to hurt them to the most personal level.
One such situation is a girl named Thiya(name changed) recently gave up her life after a group of Facebook users verbally abused her through comments on a troll made on her.
Another one is the Bois locker room which was on the news for a few days and even had various panels debating on it.
Speaking of the girl, what is the use of putting RIP now when you could have actually saved her by not commenting shit under her troll.
Remember she is not the first one, there are several others who have been victims to such cyber bullying cases.
You might think you can save yourself by putting out your opinions and comments through random social media accounts, but have some life people you are hurting a lot of them through your harsh words.
Leave cyber bullying, no issue can actually get solved if you don't speak to them in person. Social media is just a platform not the only way to express. There are a lot of people around to hear what you want to say.
