Cricket a dream of millions
Cricket- a sport that had created it's foundation in England way back in the 17th century, travelled it's way across most countries around the globe and flourished its best.
During the initial years of cricket most hadn't recognised it as a sport in India. The Britishers had brought the game to the country in the mid-18th century. Slowly a meagre population began to gain interest in the sport, though they were playing it in and around the local streets of the country but most people did not give much regard to it. When the central government had seen the slow emergence of the sport in the country they came up with an idea to begin an organisation that would handle the sport and it's events on a national level, this idea laid the foundation for the BCCI- Board of Control for Cricket in India on 10th December 1927. The first international venture since the formation was in 1932 when for the very first time India toured England.
From being a country that rarely played the sport, we have evolved to become a country that celebrates it like a festival. Every year the recognition that the players get cannot be equated to anything.
Many might wonder, how did this evolution happen? How did this sport become a part and parcel of every Indian? The interest and enthusiasm began when India lifted the World Cup in 1983 at the Lord's. No one had even expected that they would even win one game, but it had happened, that struck a chord with the millions to actually start following the sport.
Just as BCCI has always been appreciated for the way they encourage all levels of Cricket right from international to the district levels, it has been equally scrutinized for not recognising deserving talents in the country. We need to realise that they are not completely under fault, ever since the sport had become quite prominent, a number of exceptional talents have emerged, but the board have their own set of guidelines for selecting a limited number of players for different levels of Cricket. While Cricket was just being a sport that was played by a selected number of people, it turned the next level with the launch of the IPL( Indian Premier League). We had Inaugral ceremonies that had a number of celebrities taking their time to perform their best. In the due course we also saw the rising fandom for various cricketers like Sachin, Dhoni and Virat Kohli. Celebrity worship became popular, and fans began to watch a match just to see their favourite cricketer play. Such things made Cricket not just a sport but also a source of entertainment.
Penned by a die hard Cricket fan!
