Nepotism and Bollywood - A Real time love story

Nepotism can be phrased as the act of using power and influence unethically to get the dear ones a good work or job.Remember the good old days when the teachers would send the same group of students to particular competitions? The times when however hard you try to impress your heads in various clubs, the board appointments were given to their best friends? We used to call it favouritism and be upset over it for a day or so, but rather did we know it was happening big time in our country.

The Bollywood industry has stepped up to the next level in the past few years. The level of craze for Bollywood movies across the globe is insane. But since the late nineties, there have been several claims that only the star kids of the industry are being promoted, and fair chance is not given to all those who deserve. Such claims have crippled the industry to a fair extent. The concept of Nepotism doesn’t stop with just the Bollywood Industry, it’s present in each and every sphere of our life. But this industry has been greatly affected by Nepotism than the others and most probably has more of a negative impact than a positive one. This is not a new thing in Bollywood, for years it has not been given much importance until recently it became a hot topic of discussion after the untimely demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The whole industry had his/her own opinions to it.

But one has to accept the bitter truth is that the seeds of Nepotism have now got deeply rooted in the soils of the industry. Actors who have come with no filmy background and just pure talent are sidelined and under appreciated. Priorities right from casting to release dates are given to the dear ones or relatives. The worst part about this is that if some outsider tries to raise his/her voice against it, the situation turns even worse. The actor gets suppressed and ill comments are passed on them.
The ill comments goes to an extent where the actor begins to think that even if he opens up it's a big fault. One such result of such actions is the above said actor Sushant. Though we may not know the exact reasons for his suicide , some facts bring in this very Nepotism as a major reason. What do we expect a young talent like him to do when a production house removes him from 7 films without stating any major reason? Maybe all of us can keep saying that suicide isn’t an option but we need to understand the level of depression he must have been to take a step. Next actor is Ayushmann Khurrana,he had stated that once when he had called a production house to ask for an offer as an actor, they had simply responded by telling that they take up only stars and not anyone else. Next one on the list is actress Kangana Ranaut, she was boycotted and termed as a lunatic when she had gone against a famous producer in his own television show. The issue here is however hard the outside actor tries to expose nepotism, the star kids find means to defend themselves in every situation. Though they themselves know they are under fault they are not ready to accept it. While through one such suicide we exposed a major part of the true side of Bollywood, there are many such Sushants in the industry who wish to come up, just think if they all open up about the trauma they are facing, what would be the situation?
I think it’s high time the industry sit down and analyse how big a mistake they are committing. They have all rights to promote their loved one’s films but at the same time they need to promote the ones that are done by deserving talents, if not that at least better not to help than under appreciating it. Nepotism can coexist but not own the industry. It can never leave this place cause as I mentioned Nepotism and Bollywood a better love story than Romeo and Juliet.
